Lateral Thinking

Recently I decided to conduct an in-house workshop on 'Lateral Thinking' in my company, for the purpose of which I started scouring the net for information toolkits.

Now, the net is chock-full of information on lateral thinking, games, trivia etc...

Those of you who've seen the movie 'Beautiful Mind' would remember the 'Game Theory' as explained by John Nash (nobel peace prize winner) in real-life situations... such as when you go to a party looking for some romance and automatically decide on trying to strike-up a conversation with the most beautiful woman there.

The inherent problem lying within this action is that there is a very low probability that she would end up going out with you, whereas there is a significantly higher probability of the second most beautiful woman going out with you (whom you wouldn't talk to)!

Lesson learnt - When analysis real-life situations/risks, always assign a proponent of probability to all possible outcomes e.g. Most beautiful woman (10%), Second most beautiful woman (15%), Third most beautiful woman (20%), Dog-ugly woman(60%)!

Being a natural strategizer myself, I would strongly propogate the 'game theory' to everyone simply because it makes perfect sense.

Hope I'm able to do a good job conducting the session at my workplace!
